Really brief today:
1) Act II questions collected from anyone who didn't turn them in on Friday (and I forgot to collect at all from one class on Friday.
2) In class work on a "summa-phrase" for Hamlet's "To be or not to be . . . " soliloquy beginning at about line 63 of Act III. A "summa-phrase" is my teaching tool word for something that is somewhat between a summarizing the main ideas of a text and a close "translation" that accounts in some way for all of the language in the original passage. A summa-phrase will retain the original point of view, like a paraphrase; will be more detailed in following the text than a summary, but not an absolutely complete phrase by phrase "translation" like a paraphrase; will simply make it easier to show that you know what the text is saying.
Today we worked with my blocked-off units of thought--next time, you'll have to supply those as well.
There was both individual and group work on this particular soliloquy.
3) 3rd period received a writing assignment that had been given to the other classes before the week-end.
SO, for tomorrow, the expectations differ by period. Read closely:
4th and 6th:
The "Questions Essay" assignment is due on turnitin.com by 11:59 p.m.TONIGHT, and a printed hard copy is due in class on Tuesday, March 4. No printing after the bell. Come to my room before school if you're in a jam.
3rd only, or anyone with an excused absence on Friday:
This assignment is due Tuesday night at 11:59, with the hard copy due in class on Wednesday.
There are two new people in 3rd: see the class code listed for 3rd period on the Sept. 10 blog. The password was gold for all of the British and Western sections.
