FRIDAY IN CLASS
The 7 questions from Thursday's small hand-out were collected; turn in on Monday if you were absent or for reduced late credit.
Some selected review/refocus; we also reviewed the concept of tragedy as it applies to drama (vs the range of bad/sad things that can befall human beings). I am not delineating that here; I'll give you a link or two in either an updated blog post or on Monday.
Students worked in groups to cross-check the homework questions, and we looked specifically at the reasons that Claudius provides for why he knows that he cannot be forgiven. All classes did some "flashback" review to cross-check the Ghost's exact instructions regarding both Hamlet and his mother insofar as the revenge process is concerned. We also compared Claudius's most recent decision regarding Hamlet to the conclusion of the conversation with Polonius right after they had overheard the Hamlet/Ophelia "Get thee to a nunnery" episode. Obviously Claudius changed his mind after seeing the "play within the play" and realizing how much Hamlet must know.
Students enacted the opening of Hamlet's conversation with his mother.
FOR MONDAY
Read to the end of Act III. No written homework on this basketball/TOLO weekend, but you are absolutely expected to have finished reading the act with focussed attention.
