TODAY IN CLASS
Quick review of what to expect in Act II. All classes had gotten started on Act II on the Friday before break with Polonius giving instructions to Reynaldo concerning Laertes, but only one class had moved on from there. Everyone finished/finished debriefing the portion of Scene 1 in which Ophelia reports her frightening experience when Hamlet came bursting into her room.
So then we started Scene 2. In all classes, we stopped the student readings at the stage direction that says Enter Hamlet (reading on a book). In 3rd and 4th periods, we also had time to discuss the material up to that point; in 6th, expect to double back to the beginning of Scene 2 and respond to some quick comprehension and "so what?" kinds of questions.
FOR TOMORROW (all classes)
Continue reading Scene 2 up to the top of p. 107 (Folger text) or the bottom of p. 104 (blue hardback book). Know and understand the best you can. Use the side notes for all they are worth. Keep track of specific questions you have.
