TODAY IN CLASS
Three different strategies for Gawain.  One way or another, though, students should have left class really clear about the details and significance of the arming scene (for both man and horse), the literal and symbolic meanings of the pentacle (pentangle), the journey itself, and the emphathetic response of the court towards Gawain's task.

We didn't discuss the events within the castle today, and probably won't tomorrow except to make a quick parallel between the types of "testing." Tomorrow we'll look at a few facets of the ending, but you need to know that WELL on your own.

FOR TOMORROW
Read the rest of the selection for "Le Morte d'Arthur" (Malory).  That means by tomorrow you will have what was expected for today ("The Siege of Benwick," 248-253) AND finish the selection by reading "The Day of Destiny" (253-261).
