2014

New Year's Resolution:  Get 6th Period Back on Track with 3rd and 4th
Make-Up Pilgrim Quiz:  Today or tomorrow after school/Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. sharp

TODAY IN CLASS
3rd/4th:  the Pardoner's Prologue and Pardoner's Tale (170-180)

  • Students read the Prologue aloud and we discussed briefly (it's a straightforward piece!)
  • For the Tale, we listened to the opening passage on the online audio recording, I read up through the departure of the "old man," and students continued from there via silent reading in class.
  • Then students received a set of questions--also direct and uncomplicated--to complete FOR TOMORROW (a few were submitted today).
6th Period:
  • The Pilgrims Quiz--we weren't finished with presentations in time to do this on Thursday (Dec. 19), and then there was no school on Friday.
  • So then we had time to puzzle out the Latin phrase Radix malorum est cupiditas and to read the Pardoner's Prologue together.  We'll continue with the Tale tomorrow.
HOMEWORK
3rd/4th:  Finish the questions on the Tale; they'll be collected first thing tomorrow.
6th:  Do the hand-out that most of you received before break (a few got it today).  It contains review questions on the opening of the General Prologue and some "for-you-to-learn-it" questions about the portion that follows the introduction of all the pilgrims.  This is not for homework credit; it is your own personal review sheet for the non-pilgrims part of the General Prologue

EVERYONE--
Be prepared to hand in the pilgrims presentation worksheets and your responses.  (Just have everything with you in class and I'll show you exactly what I want to check.)
