Writing Assessment:  Literary Prompt
Thank you for your cooperation with today's assessment.  Just so you know, it will be scored, and you will know the score that you receive.  However, this will not happen for a few weeks, because I want to make sure that I'm using the exact rubric that the district is working out for our common assessments.  But I will be reading them immediately and using what I see to help shape my own understanding of both individual and "class as a whole" strengths and weaknesses.  Anyone who was absent today WILL need to make this up.

Although the score for this initial essay will not count as part of your first-semester grade, there will be a similar assessment at the end of the year that will count as a substantial grade late in the second semester.

FOR TOMORROW
No homework.  We'll be getting the textbooks out first thing, and start from there!
