IN CLASS ON FRIDAY
We worked on the first of three lyric poems from the Anglo-Saxon period: "The Seafarer" (104-107). There was a hand-out for students to use in following along; the hand-out covers about two-thirds of the text, and we didn't even finish that on Friday. Most of our work was together, either in small groups or class as a whole. If you've been absent, you need to pick up a hand-out.
No homework because I have not enrolled the classes into my.hrw.com (that will happen shortly!)
SO TODAY IN CLASS
We got further with the poem . . .progress is slow, because we are in part establishing ideas that will be involved in the other lyric poems and the epic poem Beowulf. My intention is to let you see some of the culture as it it shows up in this poem, and then back up to the historical and cultural information at the start of the textbook.
TOMORROW
You will get the enrollment numbers, and there will be a short assignment to do for Wednesday.
But during class tomorrow, there will be a visit from the counselors to discuss senior-related issues, particularly the college application process.
Organizational note: the new alphabetical seating chart in 3rd and 4th is for this week only (perhaps through next Monday). Sixth, you will have your new chart tomorrow.
