TODAY IN CLASS
Sunny, 86 degrees, and a fractured schedule with a one-hour assembly.

The bottom line--
  • All Chapter Two short questions have been returned; we have been trying to shore up/provide more evidence (more COMPLETE evidence) for many questions that were treated partially or superficially.
  • If we did not get to doublethink, blackandwhite, or crimestop in your class-- be sure you find them all in the book; double-check with the "Appendix" on Newspeak if necessary.
  • All the "Winston's Bedtime Reading" questions (1-22) should have been turned in yesterday for most people--today if you only got them on Monday. These are worth 40 points vs. the 15 for the Chapter Two shorter questions.  If you didn't do them, late credit will be better than a 0.
  • It was clear that in some classes people did not follow the Chapter Three reading schedule announced in class and on the blog for the past couple of days.
  • Up to p. 260 for today--to the end of the book by tomorrow.  There will be a reading check first thing tomorrow, but it will cover only up to p. 260 of Part Three. Then you will have some in-class time to read/work on a new written assignment over Part Three.
  • FRIDAY--there will be a Chapter Two quiz.  (There probably won't be a separate Chapter Three quiz, but next week there will be a test over the whole book.)
