TODAY (and yesterday) in CLASS
Students were working in groups on the project we got underway on Tuesday.  In groups of 3 or 4, students drew a set of lines from Beowulf to prepare as a "rap."  There are three components to the grade for this small project:
1) Individual:  a typed summary (probably bulleted, though paragraph-style okay) of the content of your assigned section.  This must be detailed enough to provide the content of the material to be turned into rap style; however, since the original passages are 100-125 lines long or so, some reduction was necessary.  Past due: students were to submit to turnitin.com by 10 am on Wednesday, and to bring a copy to class to contribute to their group as a basis for working out the content.

2) Group:  TWO grades
  • One based on the complete written rap--review the specific requirements regarding length and specific elements it must contain.  Be sure to have the required two copies ready to hand in on Monday--the "clean" unmarked one, plus the one that identifies and labels the required elements.
  • A second grade based on the presentation itself--consider such features as rate/pace, rhythmic sound, volume, clarity of delivery, and the success of speaking in unison.  Practice.  Creativity in incorporating supporting elements (rhythmic accompaniment, strumming of  a stringed instrument, or other musical possibilities) is welcomed but will not overcome a weak overall delivery.
See the full hand-out for essential details.  If you've lost your copy, it's available online:
The Beowulf Rapper-Scop Project

You are not expected to have this memorized.  But that means that, in terms of copies, each group member also has to have a copy to use.  Of course you need to have individual parts marked (if you're doing that at any point--not a requirement) and any other "notes to self" concerning pace, volume, etc.  These copies do NOT have to be turned in.  Just make sure you have them with you if you are presenting "live" on Monday.

We will have the group presentations (whether live or recorded) in order on Monday.

FOR TOMORROW
Do whatever was assigned in your group today.  Groups will be allowed to leave the room for recording purposes (though you will have to stay VERY close at hand.

Other work will be given out tomorrow that you can work on in class if your group is done.
